Mexico catches migrants utilizing faux UN paperwork

MEXICO CITY (AP) – Mexican authorities mentioned on Tuesday that 20 migrants had been arrested at a visitors checkpoint utilizing cast paperwork with letterheads from the United Nations refugee company, UNHCR.

The migrants had been discovered on passenger buses at a checkpoint within the northern border state of Nuevo Leon.

When requested for paperwork, they posted letters purportedly from UNHCR stating that they had been refugees or had utilized for refugee standing and must be allowed to journey to cities in northern Mexico.

Mexico’s Nationwide Institute of Immigration mentioned on Tuesday that UN officers confirmed the paperwork to be false and have filed a lawsuit within the case.

The institute mentioned a number of the migrants mentioned the smugglers gave them the paperwork and promised them they had been a “secure move” to the US border.

The institute mentioned that among the many detainees had been migrants from Honduras and El Salvador.

In current months, migrant smugglers have turn out to be extra brazen and more and more use buses to smuggle migrants. Following the crackdown on buses and trains in 2014, smugglers primarily resorted to hiding migrants in freight containers on vans.
