Iraqi military: 3 rockets hit close to Baghdad airport

BAGHDAD (AP) – At the least three rockets struck close to Baghdad Worldwide Airport on Thursday night, the Iraqi military stated.

A complete of eight missiles have been fired and three landed close to the airport advanced, the assertion stated. He didn’t say whether or not the assault precipitated any casualties.

The rockets hit areas recognized to comprise Iraqi safety forces. One hit close to a central jail, the second close to an elite counterterrorism service academy and a 3rd close to the headquarters of the fast intervention regiment.

Nobody claimed accountability for the assaults. US officers have beforehand blamed Iran-backed militias.

It’s the newest in a sequence of rocket assaults which have primarily focused US installations in Iraq in latest weeks. A number of rockets hit an Iraqi air base simply north of Baghdad on Sunday, injuring two Iraqi safety personnel.

Final month, a base in western Iraq housing US-led coalition troops and contractors was hit by 10 rockets. A contractor was killed.

Calls from predominantly Shiite leaders have escalated to oust US troops from Iraq after a US-led drone strike killed Iranian Normal Qassem Soleimani and an Iraqi militia chief in Baghdad in January 2020.

Strategic talks between the US and Iraq have centered on the way forward for the presence of American troops within the nation.
